So I purchased a t-5 transmission off of Craigslist. I talked to a kid by the name of Dwayne he assures me this is a 95 T-5 out of a 5.0. We agree on $300 dollars he delivers it. After a few days of work on this I get suspicious and look up the part number on the plate. Come to find out it is a 98 3.8 transmission. I try to call the kid back at his number 314-800-7701 and the number is disconnected. After talking to some of my friends they tell me this kid has been pulling this same scam on several other people. The transmission does look to be in good shape so if anyone needs a v6 98 tranny I have one. Also if anyone is selling a 93'ish t-5 tranny I need one. Or if anyone can recomend where I can get one cheap enough or with my v6 core I would be greatly appreciative . Now $300 bucks down and looking for this kid. He was mixed from what I could tell black/white had a garage work shirt on and a beat up old 4 cylinder truck looked like if anyone knows who this is please let me know he told me he had to get rid of it cause he was going in the army. I explained to him I just got out after serving 11 years and was building my car up. Way to take advantage of a newly departed Vet.

Thanks for listening guys.

Can't really help you out on your misfortune, but concerning transmissions that you may or may not know....

The '94/95 t5's have a 5/8" longer input shaft so you need a matching '94/95 bellhousing to work correctly

I thought the newer V6 T5s were the same as the old T5s - no? I know the 94-95 has tthe longer input shaft but just the same, other than that I thought they were the same as either the 87-93 or maybe the 94-95. Maybe BobCat will weigh in here..........

The 98 T-5 out of the V-6 is only slightly different than the 94-95 5.0 trans and they are directly interchangeable. In fact the 98 V-6 trans will most likely be in better condition than a 94/95 5.0 trans as it hasn't had as much power through it and it's 3-4yrs newer. As stated previously you cannot run that trans without changing the input shaft "which I don't recommend at all" or by running the 94/95 bellhousing, modifying the crossmember and also possibly the driveshaft.
